Uncontested Divorce in Michigan: What you need to know
An uncontested divorce occurs when both spouses agree on all major issues, including:
-
Division of property and debt
-
Child custody and parenting time (if applicable)
-
Child support and spousal support (if applicable)
Because both parties are on the same page, the process is typically much quicker, less stressful, and significantly less expensive than a contested divorce. Many uncontested divorces can be finalized in just a few months.
Why Hire an Attorney for an Uncontested Divorce?
A common misconception is that you don’t need an attorney for an uncontested divorce. While Michigan law allows you to represent yourself, having a skilled attorney ensures:
-
Your rights are protected – Agreements are legally binding and enforceable.
-
Mistakes are avoided – Incorrect paperwork can delay your divorce or cause problems later.
-
Peace of mind – You can move forward knowing everything was handled properly.
At The Nunley Law Group, we handle all filings, court requirements, and paperwork so you can focus on moving forward with confidence.

Uncontested Divorce
For uncontested divorces, divorces in which the parties have come to a settlement on their own and just want somebody to take care of the court/legal part of it, we offer representation for a flat fee. The only time that we would require more than the price listed below is if the divorce becomes contentious and the parties can no longer agree on the terms of their divorce. This price also includes all filing fees (the difference in price below for a divorce with minor children reflects the higher filing fee charged by the courts when a divorce involves minor children).
